Aligarh: On International Women’s Day, female students from Mangalayatan University staged a street theater play on their campus highlighting women’s safety issues. The street theater play titled ‘Dastak’ was performed by students from the university which focused on raising awareness of crimes committed against women. Through street play, students highlighted social issues and evils that target women, including female feticide, acid attacks on female students, and the threat of teasing and misbehavior.
Dastak – the street theater play performed by students was directed by Sukanya Raghuvanshi also spoke about several cases of exploitation of women in India. On the occasion, Sukanya Raghuvanshi has said that the main purpose of organizing such street performances and having students perform them in person is to raise awareness and prevent the atrocities committed against women in India. She added that these plays allow women and people to speak out against the atrocities and exploitation that these women experience.
Female students participating in the play included Aman, Tanya, Aditya, Lokesh, Manorama, Sakshi, Rohit, Suman, Diksha and Adarsh, all of whom inspired the audience to stand up for women’s rights.
Several dignitaries and senior staff of Mangalayatan University honored the students’ performance of the play. Among them, Vice Chancellor of the University, Prof. KVSM Krishna, Registrar Ajit Singh, Deputy Registrar, Dr. Manoj Rana, Administrative Officer Gopal Rajput, Controller of Examinations, Dr. Dinesh Sharma, Dr. Ankur Agrawal, Prof. Jayanti Lal Jain, Prof. Arif Sohail, Prof. Shivaji Sarkar, Prof. Vikash Kaushik, Prof. Lal Ratnakar, Dr. RK Sharma, Anubhav Soni, Rajesh Upadhyay, Leena Druva, Shubhankar Roy and Nati Sharma, among others.
