New Delhi: President Ram Nath Kovind on Sunday called on all compatriots to work tirelessly for women’s security, education and independence, on the eve of International Women’s Day.

Kovind said, “We can pave the way for women, especially our daughters, to become more active, capable and empowered just by doing it. Let us dedicate this occasion of International Women’s Day to the honor, security and empowerment of women and resolve that we will support them to change all traditions and policies that hinder their progress,” the President said in a statement. communicated.

International Women’s Day is observed annually on March 8 to raise awareness of women’s issues. It was first celebrated in a handful of countries in 1911, but began to be observed by countries around the world after 1975 when the United Nations began observing the day. The UN officially recognized Women’s Day in 1977.
