Seminar on the emergence of female leadership organized at the League

The Women’s Leadership Club Pakistan Study Center University of Sindh organized the awareness-raising seminar “Emergence of Women’s Leadership: Challenges and Opportunities” to explore the factors of female leadership and promote a safe and secure environment, gender equality, social rights. -economic and women’s issues.

The seminar was organized in collaboration with the Sindh Police Government and the Women Protection Cell and the Anti-Harassment Cell of the University of Sindh.

The President of the Women’s Leadership Club, Ms. Sanam Altaf Chandio, welcomed all guest speakers and outlined the goals and objectives of the Club. She said the main goal of the Club is to engage students in positive activities.

In his opening speech, Prof. Dr. Shuja Ahmed Mahesar, Director of Pakistan Study Center University of Sindh Jamshoro, highlighted three “Es”: education, employment and women’s empowerment.

He further elaborated the objectives of Pakistan Study Center in accordance with the law of the Center and highlighted the performance of the Center in education, research and community service.

He said the main goal of establishing the Women’s Leadership Club is to achieve United Nations Sustainable Development Goal 5 (SDG), which is about gender equality.

The director analyzed the challenges faced by women, including domestic violence, gender discrimination and lack of safety in the workplace.

He said the social status of women in a social structure intoxicated by feudal values ​​and patriarchal norms remains unchanged. In addition, women are neglected in the area of ​​decision-making. Dr Shuja Ahmed stressed the need to ensure the participation of women as provided for in Article 34 of 1973.

Dr Shuja Ahmed Mahesar explored in more detail the factors for the emergence of female leadership, including education, family support, self-confidence and he argued that women leaders have proven to be effective leaders in doing in the face of the pandemic crisis. They have demonstrated a substantial level of resilience and the ability to sustain themselves under the dangerous circumstances created by the pandemic virus.

He further pointed out that in order to improve the position of the Global Gender Index; Pakistan must provide space for female leadership and empowerment of women.

Prof. Dr. Naseem Aslam Channa, President of the Anti-Harassment Unit at Sindh Jamshoro University informed the audience of the support available to the Unit in the event of harassment. The purpose of this cell is to work on surveys or to help students. She recounted the whole process of the cell and the harassment cases.

Mr. Faheem, Assistant Deputy Inspector, clearly defined various forms of harassment and also made some suggestions, precautionary measures to be taken by girls in order to avoid cases of harassment.

Ms. Marvi Awan, Director of the Women’s Protection Unit, appreciated all the activists, organizers, members, including members of her team, the police, women activists, etc.

She briefly enlightened the audience on women’s issues and outlined the strategy to deal with these issues.

She admired the services of the director of the Pakistan Study Center and said that the Pakistan Study Center has taken great initiatives to set up various clubs for youth empowerment and student engagement in gender awareness raising.

She said that other departments at Sindh University should replicate the model of such Center clubs.

Ms. Sadaf, police inspector, described the extent of the safe environment for the girls.

Ms. Shahnaz Sub Inspector appreciated the Pakistan Study Center University of Sindh and encouraged the girls to stay in touch with harassment and other issues.

Dr. Ghazala Panhwar Director of STAGS Office, Sindh Jamshoro University highly appreciated the leadership efforts of the Pakistan Study Center and the performance of the Women’s Leadership Club in sensitizing communities.

At the end of the seminar, certificates of appreciation were distributed to the speakers and members of the organizing team.
