Tawake focuses on women’s development – FBC News

Fiji Rugby Union President Commodore Humphrey Tawake will focus on developing women’s programs during his tenure.

Tawake, who was appointed earlier this month, said he wanted to dedicate resources and time to women’s rugby in Fiji.

He says Fijiana 7s win at the Tokyo Olympics has inspired many people in the country and the RUF hopes to build on that next year.

“I am optimistic that if Fijiana receives or provides the shared resources and technical expertise, they will perform at this level and do wonders for all of us.”

Commodore Tawake says more will have to be done during outreach programs in rural areas.

“Women’s rugby, you know, we want to reach rural areas or teams that come to play rugby, the success of our Olympic team has given us the opportunity to do more.”

Fijiana’s extended training squad prepares for the World Series 7-a-side leg three in Malaga, Spain next month.
